Ishq

Music as harmony
(September 11, 2014) - Ishq are Matt Hillier and Jacqueline Kersley and are based in St Ives Cornwall, UK and have been making music since about 1995 under various guises including Indigo egg, Ishvara, Elve, and a few other alter egos. Ishq music skirts between IDM electronica, deep ambience and even has some newage overtones. The emphasis seems to be on music as harmony and they have quite a catalog of releases available.

Bing Satellites

Musician and producer from Manchester, UK
(August 10, 2014) - Bing Satellites is a prolific artist who has been making ambient music since the beginning of the 21st century. He has been influenced by the work of Brian Eno and most of his music is live improvised, using different loops and delays to create a sonic space for your imagination to explore. He collaborates with many other ambient artists, has many tracks on various artists compilations and is also the owner of the BFW Recordings label which also has a lot of excellent ambient music for your enjoyment. His Twilight sessions and Mostly ambient Radio sessions series are a great introduction to his music and are available from his bandcamp site.

SSI

Sonic Solutions Inc
(July 06, 2014) - SSI or Sonic Solutions Inc is brothers John and Will Goff. Started 11 years ago, the duo have produced 3 full length ambient albums and are currently gearing up for their 4th. The music is slow moving with little or no regards to formal composition. The songs or tracks don't have resolutions and the repetitive structure of formalized music is disregarded. All of the compositions are improvised with no rehearsals - the music can be focused on or put on as background music; enough changes happen to engage the listener but the sounds and ideas are subdued. All of the album titles reference the Iraq war and are titled in Latin; what goes around comes around. We are doomed to repeat our forefather's mistakes.... The 4th record, "Resurrectionem ex mortuis" or "Back from the Dead", will be coming out in the fall. As a side note, all the music in is the key of E flat minor and the tempo is 100 bpm so every track can be played over every other track.

Spheric Lounge

Highly prolific live ambient improvisatory group
(June 03, 2014) - They are a changing group of instrumentalists, videographers and dancers incorporating multimedia into the performance of live ambient music and they meet from time to time in Munich Germany to realize these creative endeavours, all of which are recorded. I think it is safe to say that John has performed live on Stillstream radio more than any other artist. Highly recommended!

Frore

aka Paul Casper
(April 05, 2014) - Frore (Paul Casper) is music that evokes a dark thoughtful, primitive, atmosphere for reflection and/or dreaming. Paul thinks it's music that connects with "something", but he has yet to figure out what that is. But one more mystery in life is always welcome. Is it music for the world before us, or for the tribes of tomorrow? Either way it's music that respects how small we are in world that - while getting smaller - is still pretty damn big and still mysterious. Frore hopes to put some of that mystery back in your world.

Boreal Taiga

Deep Arctic
(February 01, 2014) -
Boreal Taiga, aka JimDe, began in 1998 as an experiment in ambient/downtempo and has continued to evolve over the years. With an emphasis of interpreting the northern latitudes in ambient sound, Boreal Taiga whisps it's listeners away with incredible soundscapes that instill visions of arctic snow, tundra and Boreal/Taiga forest systems.

In his own words, "Boreal Taiga's music envelopes the senses with subliminal frequencies and soothing melodies coupled with downtempo/trip hop beats and sometimes the lack of beats or drums to create amazing ambient soundscapes and downtempo creations." Highly recommended listening!

Sweeping ambient
(December 01, 2013) - Peter di Phillips has played piano, trombone, saxophone, percussion, keyboards, and synthesizers. While studying arranging and Sax at Berklee College of Music, he played in various jazz-rock-blues bands. After an industrial accident damaged one hand, he continued on, using keyboards, DAW's, virtual synthesizers, and virtual instruments to create music and mix, master and produce his own CD's. Peter creates some warmly superb ethereal music that rides the line between soothing and psychedelic. Highly recommended!

Kevin Haller

Beyond the Light
(October 31, 2013) -
Last month we lost a close friend, articulate musician, and longtime Stillstream supporter, Kevin Haller (aka Killerhaven/Burning Artist Sale) RIP. Kevin created incredibly expressive and colorful instrumental ambient music. Sometimes with guitar, sometimes synths, sometimes both. It didn't matter what the instrument was, Kevin just had the touch. We still continue to grieve his absence but it is our good fortune to have most of his musical legacy preserved in Creative commons licensing for those of us remaining on Earth to enjoy.

It wouldn't be enough to just honor Kevin's musical brilliance. Kevin was a avid supporter of the station both as a listener and in the chatroom, as well as a participant of Different Skies and Electro-Music festivals. Kevin's support, camradrie, and postive energy will be long missed and we wish the best to all of Kevin's loved ones.

Juta Takahashi

Emotion and Melody
(September 01, 2013) -
Such sublime and serene music is that of Japanese artist Juta Takahashi. Inspired by Eno, Budd, and Namlook, you can hear their influences in his music within a framework that is uniquely Juta's. Lush calm is often the landscape of Juta's work, but occasionally the music steers into zones a bit more frenetic and experimental.

Takahashi's compositions mainly consist of improvisation, rather than programming. Juta says he enjoys using both analog and digital synthesizers to compose, but prefers the warm sound of analog. His first commercial album was released in 2007. Takahashi now has nine albums under his belt. Truly a must-listen, check out the music of Juta Takahashi!

Jack Hertz

Hertz and Frequency
(August 01, 2013) -
Jack Hertz is an artist, synthesist, and programmer that has been creating ambient and experimental music for over 30 years.

After several self-releases on cassettes in the 80's, Jack took a long hiatus from music as he rode the dot com boom before returning to music a few years ago. We are glad he did. Hertz creates some wonderfully animated and visual soundworlds that often cross genres, but remain rooted in an ambient aesthetic.

It is not uncommon to find dark and light ambient sounds, field recordings, off-world electronics, and found objects within Hertz's music. In his own words, "Generally, I am searching for a sonic middle ground between the real and the artificial. I design my own instruments and effects with unique characteristics that create spaces and atmospheres a listener can explore."

Highly Recommended

M.Nomized creates stunning soundscapes using instruments and field recordings with skillful studio enhancements that gently tickle the ears at times and forcefully knock you down other times. Listeners will find wonderful use of dynamics and exquisite attention to detail within each track M.Nomized lays his hands on. Highly Recommended!

Luong Hue Trinh

Ambient Eclecticism from Vietnam
(May 31, 2013) -
Hailing from Hanoi, Vietnam comes a most intriguing ambient artist named Luong Hue Trinh. Trinh is a female musician and composer using traditional acoustic instruments, voices, environmental sounds, and electronics/processing intertwined with ambient principles to create some truly sublime music and soundscapes.

The music of Luong Hue Trinh is very introspective, bordering on the dark and mysterious, yet firmly rooted in traditions of the past drawing heavily from her native Vietnam. Trinh makes superb use of minimalism, space, and spatialization in her compositions, easily convincing listeners that they have been transported into a strange and unfamiliar dreamworld. Highly recommended!

In his own words, "My esthetic could be best summarized as exploring the fractal edge of planning and coincidence. I like to assemble a situation in which Ive got the basic outline of things under control, but then either improvise inside them, or allow the situation to unfold on its own, letting the uncontrolled and unplanned portions inspire and surprise me."

Many are familiar with Brian through his stunning release with Steve Roach, The Desert In between, but his own solo material is equally as powerful. "Parnhamís inspiration is heavily influenced from the peaceful solitude of the Western U.S. deserts, drawing from both the wide open landscapes and the cloisters of the sandstone slot canyons. We play the music of WOFan all the time on StillStream and could not be happier to recommend it to all our listeners.
