Bioma - Sanfilippo and CorbachoAmbient Experimentalism(March 01, 2013) - The subtle power of Bioma is astounding. Sanfilippo and Corbacho have done it again with another collaboration that is uniquely rooted in ambient aesthetics, but embracing a strong experimental side that illustrates the bioma schema quite well. Stereoscopic saturation of nature recordings, mixed with ethereal synthesizers and light percussions, with an emphasis on silence and the space between the notes, make this a gem of an album. Numina conjures up huge harmonic spaces that reverbate and breathe so naturally that the five tracks sound as if they composed themsevles from some stratosphere in another dimesion. Piano Textures 3 - Bruno Sanfilippo(November 01, 2012) - Piano Textures 3, like it's predecessors, is a marvelous collection of solo piano done with that unmistakeable Bruno Sanfilippo touch. The album draws on classical and jazz influences, but remains firmly rooted in the ambient and minimalist traditions. Breathing May SurpriseDaniel Robert Lahey(August 09, 2012) - Upon first listening to Breathing may surprise, I instantly connected to the music of Daniel Robert Lahey. A Still Stream local in the chat room, DRL stunned everyone a few months back with this debut release on Free Floating net label. A gorgeous and spacious space is created in these six tracks that truly make me feel as if I am drifting on a cloud. Highly recommend. |

Burning Artists Sale - Bake Sale (2010)Dreams and dust(July 01, 2012) - Two beautiful tracks of ambient magic from Barbara Vesey and Kevin Haller, in this incarnation of Burning Artists Sale. The first track, The Opposite of Antithesis/Vermillion was recorded live. The second track, "the dusty trail, having been hit, with an oddly tuned whistle", is a studio piece that captures that sublime dream quality in the live performance. Very lovely piano work by Vesey on this release that effortlessly blends with Haller's Fripp-like guitarism's. Released in 2010, Bake Sale is one to keep coming back to. Highly recommended! |

The Chestnut TreeCompilation that includes over 60 artists from 18 countries(June 04, 2012) - A 5.5 hour compendium that could be compared to War & Peace in the Creative Commons musical realms. Due to the tireless efforts of Ayn Morgan and John Tocher, this compilation can truly boast of strong variations from artist to artist and track to track, but also the release maintains a focused consistency throughout the five and half hours of music. Considering the size of this release, we find this consistency quite impressive. The compilation bounces across many genres as well, from noise to drone, ambient to experimental. The Chestnut Tree compilation includes over 60 artists from 18 countries, collected for the program's one year anniversary on KPFT , 90.1FM in Houston, Texas. The program also airs on Stillstream.com, the largest ambient radio community on-line. This compilation is released through Buddhist on Fire as a creative commons download. This project represents a system of artists, community radio and net labels that promote a large range of non-commercial and legally free music. This encourages new, creative and experimental music, listener exploration and free information. |

Bone Drones 5Mystified(May 01, 2012) - As with most genres that have a prolonged existence, practitioners of the sound will begin to challenge the structures that create that genre. One of those challenges that often occur is that of the instrumentation chosen to create the work. This is the case with our featured release this month. Bone Drones 5, by Mystified, is performed and recorded using only trombone as the sound source. Mystified, sometimes known as Thomas Park, has released several albums in this series redefining the trombone as a beautiful and quite capable dronal instrument. Bone Drones 5 is the latest in the series of acoustic wind ambient drones by Mystified and is equally as compelling as the other four. In fact, all of these releases deserve mention in equal regards as they are all conceptually related, much like chapters in a book. Green Mistby Jack Hertz(April 04, 2012) - Jack covers quite a bit of ground in these tracks, from the quiet and tranquil strains of Lichen, to the lush and invigorating Algae, and finally the sleek and modern Moss, Jack entertains his fans with top-notch ambient music that is as suitable for concert listening as it is as background for contemplation, work, or sleep. While listening, we find it difficult to remember that everything we hear was performed live in one take, with no overdubs or studio trickery.
